A good wedding registry starts with a simple question: what would we genuinely love to receive?
Not what a newly married home is supposed to contain. Not another set of glasses because a registry looks incomplete without one. Things for the life you are actually building.
To create a wedding registry on Hazlnut, create an account, set up your wishlist, add gifts or funds, link an Indian bank account if you want contributions, then publish and share your link. Guests need an account to reserve a gift or contribute. Creating and sharing your list is free; cash contributions have a flat 3% fee deducted before settlement.
Here is how to make that list useful, welcoming and ready for your guests.
1. Choose what belongs on your list
Start together, away from the catalogue for a moment. What do you already own? What needs replacing? What are you saving towards? Where will you be living after the wedding?
Try a short list with three kinds of wishes:
- Everyday use: bedding, a reading lamp, cookware or something that makes your home more comfortable.
- Something to build towards: a dining table, a home-office upgrade or another larger gift people could fund together.
- A plan with a story: a honeymoon dinner, a new-home fund or a weekend you would enjoy together.
These are starting points, not a shopping assignment. If you already have the household essentials, you do not need to invent a need for six more bowls.
Include different budgets. An illustrative mix could include gifts around ₹500, ₹2,000 and ₹5,000, alongside a larger contribution-enabled item. Those are examples, not recommended spending expectations for guests.
2. Create your Hazlnut account and wishlist
Open Hazlnut and sign up or log in. Create a wishlist for your wedding and give it a recognisable title, such as your names and the occasion.
Add a cover image and a short welcome message. A personal introduction makes the list feel like an invitation rather than a checkout page.
For example:
We’re so looking forward to celebrating with you. If you’d like to give us a gift, we’ve gathered a few things we would love for our home and the adventures ahead. Please choose only what feels right for you.
Use a photo you are comfortable sharing with everyone who will receive the link. Check the details and images you include before publishing.
3. Add gifts, or create a fund
There are three ways to begin:
- Choose an item from Hazlnut Explore.
- Paste a product link from an online store to fill in its details.
- Add the details manually, including a fund that does not have a product link.
Check the name, image, amount and description rather than assuming imported information is perfect. If a product comes in several sizes or colours, make your preference clear.
A sentence about the gift can make it more personal: “For Sunday breakfasts that turn into lunch” says more than “Dining table.”
For a fund, explain the plan. “A dinner on our honeymoon” gives guests something to picture. It is a cash fund, not an experience booking: you receive the contribution and arrange the dinner yourselves.
4. Decide how guests can give
Explain the distinction between the two routes. It matters more than any registry terminology.
Reserve a gift and buy it independently
The guest reserves the item on Hazlnut, then buys it from the retailer and arranges delivery or gives it to you in person. They need a Hazlnut account to reserve it.
The reservation helps coordinate who is buying what. It is not a retailer order or proof of delivery. Guests can cancel a reservation if their plans change.
Contribute inside Hazlnut
Where contributions are enabled, guests can put money towards an item or fund rather than purchasing it themselves. Several people can contribute towards the same wish.
Hazlnut handles the contribution. You receive the money after the fee deduction and decide when to make the purchase or use the fund. Reaching a target does not automatically order a product.
Tell guests they will need to sign in or create an account to contribute. A brief explanation before they open the link is more helpful than letting that step surprise them.
5. Set up your bank details if you want contributions
To receive cash contributions, link an Indian bank account and complete the required account setup. Settlements are only in INR.
The money details are straightforward:
| Detail | How it works |
|---|---|
| Creating and sharing the registry | Free |
| Reserving a gift | Free; the guest pays the retailer separately |
| Cash-contribution fee | Flat 3%, deducted before host settlement |
| Example | ₹10,000 contributed → ₹300 fee → ₹9,700 settled |
| Standard settlement | T+2 business days: two business days after the transaction |
| Funding target | Contributions are not held until the target or event date |
For a partially funded gift, you still receive the contributed amount after the fee. Keep that net amount in mind when planning a purchase.
Business days exclude weekends and bank holidays. T+2 describes the standard settlement cycle, not an instant transfer or a promise that every payment arrives within 48 hours.
If some guests are overseas
Hazlnut supports international contributions in major currencies, enabled by default. You do not need to contact support to activate them. The host still receives INR into an Indian bank account.
Receiving a contribution from abroad is different from shipping a product internationally. For gifts guests buy independently, check the retailer’s delivery coverage separately.
6. Preview the list as a guest
Before publishing or sending the link, check:
- The occasion, names and introduction are right.
- Product links point to the intended items and variants.
- Your list includes choices across budgets, without pressure to spend.
- It is clear which gifts guests can reserve and which accept contributions.
- You understand the 3% fee and have completed bank setup if receiving money.
- You are comfortable sharing the information shown on the page.
You can also browse Hazlnut’s sample wedding wishlist to get a feel for the layout. It is a demo, not your own registry.
7. Publish and share one link
When your list is ready, publish it and copy its share link. Add it to your wedding website, send it with a short WhatsApp message or share it when someone asks what you would like.
Have the list ready before guests begin buying gifts. If invitations have already gone out, it is still useful to have a link ready for people who ask. There is no need to turn the wishlist into another wedding deadline.
Keep the message optional. You are offering help, not issuing a reminder that a gift is due.
Choose a WhatsApp or invitation template and make it sound like you.
After you share it
Check your wishlist for reservations, contributions and messages. Keep an eye on product availability, and distinguish a reserved gift from one that has actually been purchased or delivered.
When someone contributes, thank them for being part of the plan. When you eventually use the gift, a photo or a personal note can make the connection feel even warmer.
A few things you do not need
You do not need a long list, an expensive list or a list that looks like anyone else’s home. You do not need to persuade every guest to use it.
You need a handful of good ideas, clear information and permission for people to choose.
Create your wishlist. Start with one thing you would love.
